A light, but very powerful two-piece rod for fishing bait off the piers and jetties, it's powerful enough to handle any sized saltwater critter you might encounter. It has excellent casting range and can handle lures up to 5-ounces. It will fish small pencil poppers, rangers or chuggers for stripers and blues in light surf. It's extremely accurate and casts about as far as you can imagine.New for 2010, our IMX SURF rods is a series of extremely powerful, high-modulus, light weight spinning rods designed specifically for the long range casts required to successfully fish the surf. G. loomis has taken their blank technology to an entirely new level of performance with these new rods. They have noticeably smaller diameters that create less air-resistance during the casting stroke. They have faster actions than previous G.loomis surf rods, creating tremendous tip-speed to virtually launch your bait into the next time zone! You' ll discover a reserve power when fighting a fish that just isn' t available in any other surf rod.Talk about distance! It takes a special dynamic in a rod to reach those fish beyond normal casting range and then, in turn, create enough energy to drive the hooks home and bring that fish to the beach. Proprietary manufacturing technologies allow G. loomis to make their blanks with extremely dense laminates, increasing strength, sensitivity and most importantly... recovery-rate. "Recovery-rate" relates to the time it takes the rod, after being flexed (loaded) and cast (unloaded), to dampen and return to a straight position. This is paramount for distance because as a rod dampens, it wobbles. As line passes through the guides, this "wobble" creates line slap (friction) that reduces line-speed significantly. The faster a rod can recover, the less it wobbles, reducing the friction, and increasing casting distance. It' s the major factor, other than rod power, that increases casting distance, no matter what size lure or bait you use.
